McKenzie Farms Eco-Friendly

Why Choose Eco-Friendly Real Christmas Trees Over Artificial Ones?

• Artificial trees, predominantly manufactured in Chinese factories, contribute to environmental harm using non-biodegradable plastics (polyvinyl chloride) and toxic metals like lead.

• Real Christmas trees are renewable and recyclable, providing multiple uses such as ground cover and mulch.

• The Christmas tree industry protects green space and provides habitat for various animal species, with approximately 500,000 acres dedicated to Christmas tree production in America.

• For every real tree harvested, one to three seedlings are planted in its place during the spring, ensuring sustainability and future generations of trees.

• Real Christmas trees absorb more than one ton of CO2 throughout their lifetime, helping mitigate climate change. Additionally, they release oxygen, further benefiting the environment.

• The top-selling trees, such as the Douglass Fir, Noble Fir, and Grand Fir, take 6-10 years to reach harvestable size, reflecting the careful cultivation and dedication of Christmas tree farmers.

• Supporting the real tree industry sustains over 100,000 jobs (full and part-time) in the Christmas tree sector and supports local communities.

• Over 25-30 million real Christmas trees are sold annually in the United States, showcasing the popularity and demand for natural, eco-friendly options.

• On the other hand, artificial trees, typically used for only 6-9 years, are made from non-biodegradable materials and end up in landfills indefinitely upon disposal.

Choose an eco-friendly and sustainable option this Christmas—opt for a real tree that adds beauty to your home and contributes to a healthier planet.

Oregon's State Tree

My name is Doug, my mom called me Douglas but my real name is Pseudotsuga menziesii. You can see why I go by Doug. I’m from the wonderful State of Oregon, the “Beaver State”; however, I’m a Ducks fan. I was lucky enough to be cared for on a Christmas tree plantation, getting yearly haircuts (shearing) and sprayed for pests regularly. After 6 years, I was hand-selected to become a Christmas Tree. A few of my friends were not so lucky because they were not as full, green, and beautiful as myself.

I smell really good, in fact I’ve seen cars with little pictures of me hanging in them to make them smell good inside. This is one reason trees like me are chosen to be Christmas trees. We are the most popular choice for Christmas trees each year. How can you resist a great-looking tree like me? My needles are blue to dark green and 1 inch to 1.5 inches long. Crush one of my needles sometime and see how nice I smell.

I love the Pacific Northwest because it never gets too cold or hot. I would freeze if I lived in Colorado or Wyoming. I have family from Canada south to California. If I wasn’t lucky enough to become a Christmas tree, I could grow to over 430 feet tall and live a thousand years. We are also the preferred tree for lumber to build houses. Your house, I’m sure, has parts of my relatives in it. Sounds a little gross, I know, but it’s okay. We take great pride in what we can do for the planet.

An acre of my friends and I provide the daily oxygen requirements for 18 people. My home at McKenzie Farms provides enough air for a medium-sized city, making the farm carbon-neutral.Benefits

Real Christmas Trees are the natural choice, a renewable and recyclable resource. Trees provide oxygen, preserve green space, and provide refuge for wildlife.
Artificial trees are made of plastic and may contain toxins and lead. Traditions are made at Christmas; let your fresh-cut tree be the centerpiece.

Care

Cut 1/2 inch from the base of the tree and place water in the stand within 15 minutes of cutting. Do not cut or shave the tree bark. This greatly reduces the tree's ability to "drink" water. Check the water daily.
If not watered, the trunk will reseal, preventing it from being able to "drink" the water. Keep away from heat sources.

Recycle

We encourage you to recycle your Christmas Tree. There are many recycling programs available to the consumer. We recommend mulching the tree.

Green/Silver and Blue Needles
Upswept, fluffy needles
Unique fruity

Can you believe those two? They don’t call me GRAND for nothing. I have a great fragrance that gives off the best aroma. At first glance, I’ve been mistaken for a Doug, but I have shiny dark green needles that lay flat. I won’t hold it against you if you call be Doug once, just don’t let it happen twice.

I love being a Christmas tree and can handle warm and cold climates without fear. I’m a much fuller and richer-looking tree than the other two. Some families lose their ornaments in me because I’m so full.

Before my big break became a Christmas tree, I absorbed carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases and released fresh oxygen. I love it, and people seem to like that about me.

I hope to get attached to my Christmas family, so safety is important. While a tree has never started a fire, faulty lights, candles, and fireplaces can. The safest tree is a well-watered tree. Besides safety, I’ll last a lot longer.

I hope I get chipped into biodegradable mulch after Christmas to replenish soil in a park someplace. Recycling makes so much sense. I bet those lead paint fake trees aren’t biodegradable.

Silver Blue/Green Needles
Layered, Upswept, Stiff Branches
Excellent for Ornament Display

Don’t listen to Doug. If you want a Christmas tree with strong branches to display your finest ornaments, you want an Abies procera or a Noble Fir. I’m native to only the Oregon, Washington Cascade, and Coast ranges, making me very exclusive. I may be a little more expensive, but I’m Noble and worth it. I grow at a higher altitude, looking out over all the common Christmas trees.

I know I can be stiff; I’m not soft to the touch like Douglas, but what else would you expect from a Noble? I will, however, last longer than a Douglas-Fir and only mildly fragrant. Not everyone wants their house to smell like a car freshener. My branches are mostly rounded, giving me a nice finished look. I’m no wimp. I’m hardy, being able to handle warm weather as well as bitter cold. My bluish-green needles sometimes give me a silver appearance. It’s not because I’m old or cold; it’s the shine of Nobility. It’s not easy being the finest Christmas trees money can buy. They even use my clippings for wreaths, garlands, and door swags. My job is never done. I work producing air as I grow, family memories as a Christmas tree, and even recycled I can be used in rivers, beaches, and ponds for fish habitat and erosion control. What can I say? I’m all natural.

A shiny deep green look
Beautiful shape, symmetry, and density
Strong branches are great for large ornaments
Excellent needle retention
Low fragrance level

Pay no attention to my American cousins, as I, Nordy Von Nordmann, am the best choice for a Christmas tree. I’m already the dominant tree of all of Europe. Now I plan to conquer America with my beautiful branches and hardy build. I come from the mountains around the Black Sea, with a range that stretches from Turkey to the Russian Caucasus. Like a French supermodel, I have perfect shape and symmetry, while my modesty requires me to hold on to every one of my needles well past the American trees. I’m also far less likely to make people sensitive to tree aromas sick, however if you like trees that smell like a car air freshener I’m not for you as Nordy Von Nordmann will not lower myself to smell up a home just for attention.
